MAURICE KOUGUELL
THE MUSICIAN
Dr. Kouguell graduated as a violist from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.
Although offered a scholarship to study at Julliard, he decided instead to pursue
his studies in clinical psychology. He served as principal violist with the Ostschweitzer
Kammer Orchester and Camerata Helvetica with whom he toured Europe for seven summer
seasons. He also served as principal violist in New York with the Queens College
Orchestral Society, the Great Neck Symphony and the South Shore Symphony. He has
performed and coached various chamber music groups throughout Europe and the United States
and has appeared on WNYC, WBAI WNBC-TV and European radio stations.
Currently, he is in a newly formed string quartet which includes Dr.Yeou-Cheng Ma, Hiroko
Nakahara and Alexander Kouguell, all internationally known performers. He continues to be
interested in meeting and playing, especially chamber music, with other musicians.
